Kick Kick Snare.

So I've been listening to Justice, which of course led to Wale, which of course led to The Roots and ended up remembering going to a Girl Talk show and seeing an instrumental hip hop open up. They were a little group from DC called Restoring Poetry in Music and I'm really feeling them right now.

I found their album, Pyramids in Moscow, here and have been listening to the album on repeat.

Another group that reminds me of these guys are Richmond born, Score One For The Little Guy. I'm sure you've heard of them if you live in Richmond and have friends. Anyways, check them all out.

A Pirates Life For AFOM.

A "friend of mine" recently decided to finish up his Múm collection and downloaded their discography. I gave an ear and it is just 3.2 hours of pure glitchy Icelandic rapture. Their almost creepy sound makes for perfect for your everyday life. (If your everyday life was a slow motion black and white Icelandic film about the murder of your best friend who turned out to be a homosexual and actually killed himself after the rejection from your closet homosexual brother.)

Oh yeah, Viva La Vida has been leaked by "a friend of mine" for all you Coldplay lovin' Samuel Bellamys out there.

Moovies.

So yesterday I went extemporaneously went to the matinee showing of Don't Mess With the Zohan with a few friends and then onto the next theatre to see Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. My advice to you: Don't watch two two hour movies back to back on an empty stomach. My friends advice to you: Don't wear contacts but choose your glasses while watching two two hour movies back to back on an empty stomach.

Don't Mess With the Zohan is about an Israeli anti-terrorist with dreams of becoming a hairstylist in New York. Zohan surprisingly not different from the other Adam Sandler movies; typical, reused, and good for a few laughs. It also contains stereotypes of Israeli, Palestinian, old chicks and gay dudes. But the biggest distinction from his other movies is his accent. No longer do we have his signature weird kiddy singing thing or his shout/scream abilities, but his feminine "I can barely understand half of this movie" speech. With it's obvious plotline and overdone jokes, two hours was way too much to sit in a theatre to watch Adam Sandler and an Asian guy hump an old ladies shoulder. Unless you're into that kind of thing. But at least I didn't go see the Love Guru aka Austin Powers.

The second movie we saw was the new Indiana Jones. It was about an archeologist, professor (not to be confused with the dude in National Treasure) who is running away from the KGB while on a quest to return the Crystal Skull and kill themselves... Kind of. Anyways, for fans of the series, you've just got to see it. I know there have been some negative reviews for the film, but it does certain things movies should do. Entertain and... Well that's the main thing a movie should do. If you are some fake hypebeast rapper still stuck on myspace who thinks this movie is pure trash and a disgrace to cinema and film and left in the beginning of the movie, you my friend, are an idiot. Given the beginning was very slow and how I was basically drooling over the mini DiGiorno pizza in the seat in front of me, the new Indy did enough to revive nostalgia and keep me entertained.

On another note, I've realized living outside of Richmond that Chiplote is crap compared to Q'Doba. If you think Chipotle burritos are big, you haven't been to Q'Doba where you receive a huge maggot-like orb of deliciousness. Mmm, corporate Mexican cuisine.

Grand Theft Whatever

Ok, so I thought I was going to write about this game sooner, then it I thought I was going to write about this game after I finished with it. And that's what I did. I finished it about a week ago. Honestly I'm only writing this because I have nothing else to do. I think everyone rated this with a 10/10, I will rate this with a 9.5/10. It's a very fun and addictive game to play until you've beaten it. It has replay value, but just not enough for me. Although I think there are alternate endings. This isn't a review because frankly I'm not qualified to give one and I don't understand why you be looking for a review on this site. This is just me talking, blogging, whatever.

There are some things I could see that could use improvement. Being a cinema guy and this game being a type of movie, some shots could have done less sloppily. It reminded me of parts of the old GTA's. Which could be good but wasn't in this case. I was sad that it ended so soon, but maybe because I played it often and wasn't really going around killing people for fun. I stuck to the missions. Of course everything good you hear about the game is true. Great voice acting, better aiming and all that. But yeah, that's it. Was it worth getting at midnight? Of course.

Django Reinhardt.

Every once in a while comes a Dj who revolutionizes the term disc jockey. Dj Ango is not one of those Djs. Dj Ango is another one of those bedroom disc jockeys who just samples random hip hop songs and puts them entirely over a song. His new album MonkeyPotatoButt involves only Ratatat songs with vocals over it. Very pathetic and embarrassing to all Djs accross the globe. However, it does sound pretty cool.

Mewthree.

There's nothing like reclining back on a long trip home in a car listening to "pretentious art rock" and closing your eyes to look around at all of the beautiful, warm colors as the sun rays hit your eye lids (hopefully you are not the one driving). The video above is a band called Mew, performing the song Special from their latest CD.  Mew is a Danish band consisting of three guys who look alike and have names with characters that I don't know how to create on my computer. The equivalent to the null sign in math. Anyways, whenever I return home from college, I like to choose a band to listen to on the way back. Old school. No skipping around the cd or putting the iPod on random. Just like popping in a cassette and singing along. Well this time guess what band I chose. Yea! Color Me Badd. How'd you guess? But still, Mew is amazing to listen to especially if you have a good imagination. Why? I don't know really, you just will. They are a dreamlike, prog, post-rock band with a vocalist. Imagine a toned down Anthony Green. This band is just so infectiously catchy. Although from what I've noticed it is not for everybody. But if you like music, definitely check these dudes out.

In conclusion:
Mew is good.
CD's killed music.

Games Games Games.

Awaiting for the release of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, I've been replaying the whole Metal Gear collection chronologically starting from; Snake Eater, then MG1, MG2, MGS, and finally Sons of Liberty (Unfortunately I don't own a PSP for Portable Ops). However in the middle of this epic journey through the fellowship of the nerd, I managed to drift away during MG2 and started playing Xenogears, now I could write a whole book on the greatness of that RPG but will condense that in another entry some other day. After a short stint with Xenogears, I decided to prepare myself for the closer coming GTA IV, as to MGS4, and went ahead and bought GTA: San Andreas. Finally being 18, I can buy cigarettes and such. Fortunately I don't smoke and bought an M rated game instead.

Now this is a great game and will soon be followed by an even greater installment. But in the midst killing dope fiends for their "chips" and speeding off of cliffs with an Hispanic fireball girlfriend who is screaming in my ear, I drifted off once again. No this entry is not a review of MGS or GTA, those will come later. This is the review of a far more intense game. The World's Hardest Game entitled, The World's Hardest Game.

This addicting game, brought to you by none other then AddictingGames.com, will get you hooked faster than Peter Pan's nemesis giving away heroin that induces money flying out of beautiful women's bank accounts. The objective of the game is simple. You are a red square and need to get to point A to point B with moving obstacles that will cause an sudden outburst of curse words from your mouth when touched. Prepare to find yourself shouting obscenities during your lecture classes every time you fail. With 30 levels, you could probably defeat the game in a few days if you're determined. But the gameplay isn't the only five star feature. The sound is also grand. With music from some dude named Snayk, the electro, Pnuma Trioish, song will be stuck in your head. The sound effect of a punch when touching an obstacle will also bring back memories of bullies in third grade who picked on you because you knew what the square root of 9 was. Ah, those nostalgic memories of beating up nerds brings me back...
